The University of Edinburgh Summer School is delighted to announce that we have pledged our commitment to Generation Study Abroad.
Generation Study Abroad is an initiative from the Institute of International Education which aims to help more Americans to gain international experience through study abroad programmes. We have pledged to take a number of actions to help Generation Study Abroad reach their goal of doubling the number of U.S. students studying abroad by the end of the decade.
Some of the key steps we will be taking to increase our U.S. cohort include:
- Attending more study abroad events in the U.S. to raise awareness of our Summer School
- Increasing online outreach and support
- Offering 10 tuition fee bursaries per year
- Developing new courses in areas most beneficial to U.S. students
Our Director Isabell Majewsky Anderson made the following comment:
“We are delighted to be joining such a positive and ambitious initiative as Generation Study Abroad. The University of Edinburgh recruits more U.S. students than any other UK institution and our Summer School welcomes a considerable number of American students each year. We are very much looking forward to putting our pledge into action and building on this international partnership.”
Generation Study Abroad seeks to significantly increase study abroad participation by bringing employers, governments, associations, and others together to build on current best practices and find new ways to extend study abroad opportunities and resources to tens of thousands of college students whose needs are not currently served by existing programs. Partners to date include over 400 colleges and universities of all sizes and types around the world, as well as 16 governments, 25 education associations, more than 100 international partners, and 100 study abroad, K-12, and social network organisations who have committed to specific goals to increase the number of U.S. students studying abroad.
